Impact ’08: Inspiring A New Debate on America’s Foreign Policy

The interconnected global challenges and opportunities facing America in the 21st century call for using “smart power – the strategic use of development, diplomacy and defense.  Impact ’08: Building a Better, Safer World  is the Center’s new non-partisan national campaign calling on all of the 2008 Presidential candidates to elevate and strengthen support for development assistance and diplomacy – the non-military tools of America’s global engagement. 

Making greater and more effective use of our development and diplomatic tools will advance global health, economic prosperity and international cooperation while restoring America’s global image and moral leadership.

Impact ’08 is seeking to shape in a number of ways:


Engaging the Candidates and Key Advisors

Through meetings and forums at both the national and state levels, the Impact ’08 network will connect with the candidates and their foreign policy and national security teams to educate them on the importance of greater U.S. investments in development and diplomacy.

Encouraging Debate on America’s Role in the World

Through the media, town halls and other events, Impact ‘08 will increase public awareness of the benefits of employing smart power in U.S. foreign policy.

Keeping Americans Informed

Here on the website, we will carry the latest information on what candidates and experts are saying about U.S. foreign policy and foreign assistance. The site will be an unprecedented resource on issues, articles, speeches and events regarding issues related to U.S. global engagement
