Executive Director
Liz Schrayer
Liz Schrayer serves as the founding Director of the Center for U.S. Global Engagement. She along with her colleagues at Schrayer and Associates, Inc. - a national political consulting firm – serve as the overall director and strategist for the Center. Ms. Schrayer also serves as the Director of the U.S. Global Leadership Campaign for the past 11 years. Prior to beginning her own firm, Liz served as the national Political Director of AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee). She worked on Capitol Hill and in state Government and has traveled across the country organizing citizen advocates on various issues.
 
Managing Director
Carolyn Reynolds Mandell

Carolyn Reynolds Mandell comes to the Center from the World Bank where she served as Senior Communications Officer. In this capacity, she was responsible for designing and implementing the Bank's communications and outreach strategy with civil society organizations and other key constituencies in the United States and other industrialized nations.  Prior to joining the Bank, Ms. Reynolds was Director of Legislative Affairs for InterAction and led the coalition's lobby effort to restore support for U.S. foreign assistance programs.  Ms. Reynolds also served on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for African Affairs and has been a consultant to a variety of international agencies, including USAID, Peace Corps, and UNICEF.  Ms. Reynolds holds a Master’s degree in economic and political development from Columbia University and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia.

Policy Director
Allyson Stroschein

Allyson K. Stroschein joins the Center from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), where she served as Senior Policy Advisor in the Administrator’s Office, providing strategic counsel on programs implemented in more than 80 countries that receive U.S. aid. Most recently, Ms. Stroschein provided oversight for USAID’s humanitarian assistance for displaced persons and underserved populations in Darfur. Prior to that, she spent a year in Iraq assisting in the design of democracy and governance programs. Ms. Stroschein was also deployed as a first responder to Northern Pakistan after the 2005 earthquakes. Before joining USAID, Ms. Stroschein worked for the United Nations as a strategic planner, and also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in rural Romania. She holds a master’s degree in International Security Policy from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Journalism from South Dakota State University.

Nate Wright
Nate Wright joins the Center after completing a Mitchell Scholarship in Ireland, where he studied for an LLM in International Human Rights Law. Prior to that, he worked for the Department of Justice for a year, after graduating with a degree in history from Georgetown University. In 2004, while at Georgetown, Nate founded STAND: A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition to end the genocide, protect human rights, and support sustainable development in Sudan. STAND has grown to include over a thousand university and high school chapters across the world. Mother Jones Magazine named Nate “student activist of the year,” and Reebok selected him as the first recipient of the Human Rights Young Activist Award.

Allison Tamer
Allison Tamer is a recent graduate of Boston University where she received a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations focusing on Eastern European studies. During her time at Boston University, she served as an intern in the office of Senator John Kerry. As an intern, Allison aided constituents in a myriad of issues and researched legislation to educate constituents.

Communications Director
Jeff Berkowitz
Jeff Berkowitz joins the Center after serving as Deputy Communications Director and Research Director for the Rudy Giuliani Presidential Committee. Prior to the campaign, he was an advisor on international information programs to the Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, overseeing the expansion of radio, Internet and other communications programs targeted at critical overseas audiences. Before joining the State Department, he was the Associate Director for Research in The White House Office of Scheduling and served as the President’s Liaison to the American Jewish Community. During the 2004 Presidential election, he was the Senior Defense and Foreign Policy Analyst for the Republican National Committee, where he was the lead researcher for the RNC and Bush-Cheney 2004 on defense, foreign policy, homeland security, intelligence and veterans affairs. He has spoken and written on a wide range of political and cultural issues and is a graduate of American University’s School of International Service.

Tom Vogel
Tom Vogel joins the Center from American Capital Strategies. Prior to that, he was with Governor Tom Vilsack’s presidential campaign in Des Moines, Iowa serving as an organizer and with Governor Vilsack’s Heartland PAC, working in support of local and statewide candidates during the 2006 elections. Before joining Heartland PAC, he worked with the Foundation for the Development of Needy Communities in Mbale, Uganda, assisting with the Foundation’s vocational school and nutrition center. Mr. Vogel is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Political Science and African Studies.

Chris Krueger
Chris Krueger joins the Center most recently from completing his MA International Relations at the War Studies Department at King’s College London with a focus on trans-Atlantic relations, Russia, and the Middle East. Prior to studying abroad, he served for nearly four years on the senior staff of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on House Administration. In this capacity, Mr. Krueger was the chief liaison for the committee to the other standing committees, Congressional offices, and the House leadership and had the opportunity to travel extensively as a representative of the U.S. House throughout Asia and the Middle East. Mr. Krueger has worked on several local, state, and federal campaigns in Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, New York, and his native state of Vermont. Mr. Krueger graduated from the University of Vermont with honors, double majoring in political science and history.

Jenni Rothenberg

Jenni Rothenberg is a recent graduate of Boston University College of Communication where she received her Bachelor of Science in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations. During her time at Boston University she served as an intern with Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney and at O’Neill and Associates, a Boston based PR firm. Ms. Rothenberg was also instrumental in establishing the Denver-based Campaign to End AIDS Youth Action Institute, a youth-led organization dedicated to ending HIV/AIDS.

Beth Neary

Beth Neary joins the Center after having served as External Relations Manager/Senior Grant Writer at Citizens for Global Solutions. In her position with the Center, she is responsible for the development and stewardship of grant proposals and program development, including aspects of the Center’s Impact ‘08 project. Ms. Neary received her Masters of Science in Conflict Analysis and Resolution at the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University, and received her undergraduate degree in Political Science and Peace and Conflict Resolution at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Madeleine Pryor

Madeleine Pryor joins the Center from the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. Prior to her most recent position, she was with the USAID-funded SanteNet Project in Madagascar, where she photographed and interviewed rural communities throughout the country to gauge the impact of a community mobilization initiative focusing on better health and environmental practices. She has also spent several summers interning at Chemonics International. Ms. Pryor is a recent graduate of Tulane University where she received her Bachelors in International Relations and International Development.

Emily O'Rourke

Emily O’Rourke is a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature. Last summer, Emily completed a research fellowship in Buenos Aires where she studied the history of the State of Terror in Argentina. While at Carolina, Emily served as a political columnist and a sections editor for the campus magazine, Blue & White.
