National Security Advisory Council Launch - March 5, 2008
General Anthony C. Zinni, USMC (Ret.) and Admiral Leighton W. Smith, Jr., USN (Ret.), issued a call to action to the remaining presidential candidates to elevate support for the use of “smart power” Issued on behalf of over 50 retired senior military officers (click here for a full list), this is the largest endorsement from the military community that non-military tools strengthen America’s national security.
General Zinni and Admiral Smith released the call to action at the launch of the new National Security Advisory Council for the Center. The National Security Advisory Council is a unique, non-partisan group (bios) — comprised of over 50 three and four-star generals and admirals — representing all branches of the Armed Forces. The Council is chaired by General Zinni and Admiral Smith, who have united with the Center in support of strengthening America’s national security strategy with increased use of non-military tools.
